the after womb

THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF LIFE are sometimes referred to as the 4th trimester. I'd read a bit about this when Dinah was born. She was a gem the first 2 weeks but then she started to wake up to the world around her. She got fussier in the evenings and needed to be soothed to sleep. I remember many of those early nights being up with her till midnight or later trying to get her down for the night. We did a lot of rocking and walking and singing and more walking. It wasn't so bad. She really was quite an easy baby. I learned that all babies go through this stage during those first few months. But this time around I'm realizing that it could have been easier.
My dear friend Xela made this wrap for Maisie and I just love it! I hesitated using one before because it seemed so complicated. Before Maisie arrived I told Xela if she showed me how to wrap one I'd try it out. Of course, she went one better and made this for me and then showed me how to wrap it.
At this point it probably goes without saying how much this whole wrapping thing has helped in the soothing business. But let me just say whenever Maisie is having a hard time settling down to sleep I just strap her on and she is almost always out like a light. So I've got a happy, sleeping baby and hands free to get the dishes or whatever else done (like tend to a rambunctious toddler).
Count me a convert to the concept of the after womb.
